The State Key laboratory of Coal Conversion (SKLCC) is oriented towards the strategic needs of national energy security in the context of "dual carbon". The primary mission of SKLCC is to provide core technologies and solutions for clean and efficient utilization of coal to meet increasing energy demand for the sustainable development of the economy and society. SKLCC conducts frontier fundamental and applied researches on the combustion of coal and the conversion of coal with emphasis on clean fuels, high-value added chemicals and advanced materials, and on the solution to environmental problems associated with coal utilization.

SKLCC has close relations with a number of international universities and institutes. It hosted the 10th International Conference on Coal Science, the 14thAnnual International Pittsburgh Coal Conference & Workshop, the 7th, 9th, 11th and 13thChina-Japan Symposium on Coal and C1 Chemistry, the 7th China-Korea Workshop on Clean Energy Technology, and co-organized the 8th, 10th and 12th Japan-China Symposium on Coal and C1 Chemistry. Its senior members are currently on the positions of principal Editor and Editorial Board Member of Fuel Processing Technology.

SKLCC has possessed the competitive ability on international frontier studies on coal conversion. Under the strong support from Institute of Coal Chemistry CAS, SKLCC will establish new characteristic concepts for coal conversion processes to meet momentous needs of china and realize related technical innovations and then become one of the international centers in clean coal technology.
